Apparently Fenris was in a movie in 1982, in which he played a racist. Thanks Eric!

This shot is courtesy of my brother-in-law Jer about a year ago (my guess is October 2009). The other day the at the vet Fen weighed in at 66 pounds. I won’t be one-arming him any time soon.

Fetch

It took him about a year, but Fen finally figured out fetch and now he can’t get enough. He still pretty much sucks at it in the city, but at the cottage he’s a pro. All he wants to do up there is chase after anything moving, on the lawn, in the water, through the woods, wherever.

North of Muskoka, nature has plenty of moving parts, but nothing beats the erratic bounces of a rubber Kong. A few weeks ago while rummaging around the cottage he found a blue and white aqua-Kong (it has a rubber stopper in the top so it doesn’t sink in water) and it immediately became his favourite thing. He loved it so much that he followed it into the water for the first time.

At the end of the weekend, I didn’t feel right bringing it home, so when we got back to the city we bought him his own, solid orange. I was disappointed they don’t still sell the blue and white kind, but I’m pretty sure the one at the cottage is 10 years old at least, so it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

He’s nearly finished ripping out the rope.

I’m just back from the cottage with two tired dogs and a tired wife.

Mr. Big

By the way, this is how big he is now:

He’s not quite 9 months now; pups tend to get as tall as they will get at 11 months, then they fill out. We bought a truck.

See you next fall

It was nice while it lasted. Since November, the entire stretch of beach between Ashbridges and Balmy beaches has been a designated off-lead dog area. Sadly, this dog-haven is no more as of March 31. After that, the beaches will go back to their other incarnation: a location for drunken teenagers.
